Robert Graves expert Dr Fran Brearton, Lecturer in English at Queen's University, Belfast and Assistant Director of the new Seamus Heaney Centre for Poetry at Queen's, will give the British Academy's Chatterton Lecture on English Poetry on 'Robert Graves and the White Goddess' at 5.30 p.m. on Thursday, 11 November 2004 (Armistice Day) at the British Academy, 10 Carlton House Terrace, London, SW1Y 5AH, followed by a reception there at 6.30 p.m..

For further details of the event, including an abstract of Dr Brearton's paper and contact and location details for the British Academy in London, please access the Academy's website here.

Anyone planning to attend this lecture may like to know that that the inaugural event in the UK of the newly-formed War Poets Association will take place at the Imperial War Museum in London on the previous day, 10 November, when Andrew Motion, the Poet Laureate, will read from his recent acclaimed anthology of First World War poetry and discuss what the poems mean to writers and readers today.

Admission to Fran Brearton's lecture at the British Academy is free but those planning to attend should note the Academy's seating policy:

'This is a free lecture - no tickets will be issued. All seats will be allocated on a strict first-come, first-served basis. The first 100 audience members arriving at the Academy will be offered a seat in our Lecture Room where this event will take place. The next 50 people to arrive will be offered a seat in our Overflow Room which has a video and audio link to the Lecture Room. The lecture starts at 5.30 pm, and will be followed by a reception at 6.30 pm. Please arrive in good time.'

For details of tickets for Andrew Motion's talk and reading at the Imperial War Museum, which cost 7.50 or 6.00 for members of the War Poets Association or Friends of the Imperial War Museum, please visit the Museum's website here.
