|A one-day conference, Siegfried Sassoon at Mells, organised by the War Poets Association, will take place at the village of Mells, Somerset, where Sassoon is buried, on Saturday 28th May 2005. The event will be led by Jean Moorcroft Wilson, a major biographer of Sassoon, and will include some discussion of Sassoon's war poetry and wartime friendship with Graves. It will be of interest to many members of the Robert Graves Society.
Arrangements for the event are now being confirmed and bookings taken: further details and information about how to book are available on the War Poets Association's website. Early booking is advised, as the total number of places must be limited to about sixty. The event will start at 11.00am.
Mells is located in rural Somerset, England, but is close to the town of Frome, which has a railway station and is also reasonably accessible by bus and, of course, motor car. It has been arranged that parking in Mells will be available at the Tithe Barn from 10.00am onwards; places should also be places in other parts of the village, including outside the Inn (the Talbot). Please arrive in good time in order to secure a space and please park considerately: a wedding will be taking place at the church later on the same day, for example.
