|Our Vice-President (Europe) has appropriately just alerted me to the fact that Eurostar, the rail company that runs trains at amazing speeds between the centres of London and Paris has just released a tranche of low fares for the Graves Conference dates 6-10 July 2004 and the surrounding travel period.
Travel between London Waterloo International and Paris Gare du Nord typically takes about 2 hrs 46 minutes and (if you book soon) costs £59 return or £29.50 single for the dates of the conference or 6 - 11 July. That's about $105 USD or €89 Euros return or $53 or €45 single.
These very low fares typically run out very fast, so it's essential to book soon. To make reservations and pay online, visit www.eurostar.com and follow the instructions from there.
For information, registration for the Robert Graves Conference (www.gravesina.org/paris) will be open in Paris from 1.00-6.00pm on Tuesday 6 July and the programme will end on Saturday 10 July at 2.30pm, unless you are planning to stay for the biennial general meeting and dinner of the Robert Graves Society later that day.
A typical London-Paris-London journey at the rates above will leave London Waterloo International on Tuesday 06/07/2004 at 12.09 and arrive at Paris Gare du Nord at 15.59, returning from Paris on Sunday 11 July (the day after the conference ends) at 11.43, arriving in London at 13.29. There is an hour's time difference between London and Paris: London is one hour behind Paris.
These fares will be of interest to those travelling from England and other parts of the UK as well as to anyone planning to attend the conference from the Americas or other places, who may find it much cheaper or convenient to 'turn a journey around' on London rather than Paris.
See www.gravesiana.org/paris/2004leaflet.pdf for full details of the conference and a registration form.
Hope to see you in Paris!
