Those who had the pleasure of accompanying Helen McPhail on a tour of battlefields during the 2004 Robert Graves Conference in France, and others, will be delighted to know that she will lead a further Battlefield Tour, War and the Poets of 1914-1918 to France in October 2005. The tour will follow in the footsteps of a much larger number of war poets, still including Robert Graves, Owen and Sassoon, and has been arranged by the War Poets Association and Eyewitness Tours Ltd. It will take place from Friday 21st – Monday 24th October, 2005.

The theme of the tour will be ‘To Ypres and the Somme in the footsteps of the First World War Poets’ and it is being organised by Helen McPhail (who is a Board member of the WPA) and historian Andy Thompson of Eyewitness Tours Ltd. The cost will be only £295, less a discount of £10 for members of the War Poets Association. (Click here to book, obtain further information or find details of how to join the War Poets Association.)

Please note that up to 50 places will be available, but up to 15 of these will be allocated to another client of Eyewitness Tours Ltd.

This will be an exciting opportunity to visit the battlefields of Northern France in the company of experts on the poets of World War I and I hope it will be of interest to members of the Robert Graves Society. Please feel free to contact me for further details or to register your interest, however provisional, in attending the tour this October.
