Notes: Graves undertook to have this poem printed in an unknown number of copies on the occasion of the birth of his son, Juan on 22 December 1944 and Graves sent copies as a New Year’s greeting for 1945.

Most copies bear Graves’s ink correction to the word ‘witnesses’ in the third stanza so as to make the word singular.
