Madeleine Vara was a house pseudonym, but see Laura (Jackson) Riding, Denver Quarterly (1974), 5–6: ‘This name ... I introduced into Epilogue as other-signature for writings of mine. A piece of writing on Nietzsche in Epilogue [i.e. B22] is included in Robert Graves’ collection of “his” critical writings The signature of the piece is “M.V.”. It was of my writing, as was everything else of that signature, full or abbreviated.’
The design on the front cover is from an engraving by John Aldridge.
This book was distributed in the US by Random House, as were B24 and B25 and other titles co-published by the Seizin Press and Constable. Also see note to A45.
