16.5 × 11.2 cm. Bulk: 1.2/1.3 cm. White wove paper; all edges trimmed. Endpapers vary. Some copies have plain white wove endpapers; others with outer front and outer rear sides printed in pale olive green (or light green) with repeating pattern: COLECCIÓN | [device] | SIURELL showing through in white. Most copies seem to have been bound in boards covered with magenta paper with webbed design in white; back and spine otherwise blank; front has portrait of George Sand in black in simulated white quadrilateral box. One copy seen with green replacing magenta on the covers.

Price: 35 pesetas. Number of copies unknown. Published in 1955 in white dust-jacket printed in black and blue. Two states of the dust-jacket have been noted. The front panel of one has the author’s name printed in blue; other jackets have the author’s name printed in black.

A copy signed by Alan Sillitoe and dated by him “1958” has mauve covers and plain white wove endpapers; Ripoll’s name is in blue on front panel of the dust-jacket

Notes: Graves’s contribution is the foreword (pp. [xi] xii–xiv). The printer is Imprenta Mossén Alcover, Calatrava 68, Palma de Mallorca.

A second impression of B39.2 was published in 1961. Of four copies examined, all were bound in magenta covers as described above and three had plain white, wove endpapers and one had pale olive green endpapers as described above; three were in jackets with Ripoll’s name in black on front panel and one with Ripoll’s name in blue.

In the previous edition of this bibliography, ‘Chopin’s Winter in Majorca’ was listed as B39.1. It has been renumbered here to maintain chronological sequence.
